**OpenAI GPT-Realtime-2 — three new voice models with GPT-5-class reasoning** — OpenAI announced on May 7th a trio of new voice models for the Realtime API. GPT-Realtime-2 is the first voice model with GPT-5-class reasoning, able to handle harder multi-step requests while keeping a natural conversational flow. GPT-Realtime-Translate does real-time live translation from over 70 input languages into 13 output languages, keeping pace with the speaker. GPT-Realtime-Whisper provides streaming speech-to-text transcription as people talk. OpenAI frames these as moving real-time audio from simple call-and-response toward voice interfaces that can actually do work: listen, reason, translate, transcribe, and take action as a conversation unfolds. Pricing: Realtime-2 at $32 per million audio input tokens and $64 per million output tokens. Realtime-Translate at $0.034 per minute. These are immediately available in the API. For voice AI builders, this is a significant capability jump — especially the reasoning layer, which was the missing piece that kept earlier voice models feeling dumb during anything beyond surface-level chat.

**OpenClaw posts mea culpa, promises core shrink and LTS** — The OpenClaw team published a blog post this week titled "OpenClaw Had a Rough Week" — a rare public accountability post. Starting around 2026.4.24, gateways got slower, some installs got stuck in plugin dependency repair loops, and multiple channels behaved worse than they should. By 2026.4.29 it was obvious enough that users were downgrading. The post identifies root cause: attempting to move too much out of core into plugins simultaneously, without getting the boundaries right, landed users in the worst middle state. The fix plan is threefold: make core smaller and cleaner, move optional channels and providers to ClawHub, and ship a separate LTS track later in May. 2026.5.6 shipped with a fix for the doctor tool that stopped it from rewriting valid Codex OAuth routes, and 2026.5.7-beta.1 is now in flight. **Google I/O 2026 preview — Gemini upgrades and Aluminium OS expected May 19** — With Google I/O just eleven days away on May 19th, the signal cluster has sharpened around Gemini Flash tier upgrades, Android XR improvements, and the debut of something called Aluminium OS — Google's new operating system framework. TestingCatalog and Android Authority both confirm the cadence of Gemini signals points back to the Flash tier. Expect agentic AI features as a major theme, given Google Cloud Next's enterprise agent platform announcement from April. Whether Google announces an on-device Gemini model to compete with Apple Intelligence is the wild card.
